See you all off the Moon !

3Z4EME in First Leg of ARRL EME

ARRL EME weekend has been a great fun, despite not being able to run the station full available Moon time due to QRL commitments on weekend. Missed total of 10 hours of Moon time including most of NA window on Sunday morning ( UTC time ). On the bright side - plenty of NA stations left to work in the second leg of ARRL EME. The Moon conditions on Saturday just so-so, noticeably better on Sunday. Moderate pileups of approx a dozen of callers experienced from time to time.

3Z4EME activity results so far - after 1st ARRL EME weekend

Copernicus Special Event EME Station

Moonbouncing from Olsztyn - the city of Nicolaus Copernicus

3Z4EME is a Special Event EME Station callsign utilized for EME events, activity periods and technical experiments. The station is capable of both JT65 and CW on 144 MHz. Grid locator is KO03hs - the greater Olsztyn area.

Olsztyn, the capital of so-called Country of One Thousand Lakes in North-Eastern Poland, is the city where one of the most famous world astronomers - Nicolaus Copernicus - spent part of his life and performed some astronomical observations.

During 1516–1521 Copernicus resided at Olsztyn Castle as economic administrator of Warmia province ( Kingdom of Poland ). While there, he wrote a manuscript, Locationes mansorum desertorum ( Locations of Deserted Fiefs ) and during the Polish–Teutonic War ( 1519–21 ), Copernicus directed successful defense of Olsztyn and Warmia by Royal Polish forces.

In the cloister of the Olsztyn Castle we can still see the authentic proof of Copernicus work - an astronomical board of dimensions 140x705 cm, an immovable astronomical instrument, the fourth he possessed. It is a kind of an empirical table - it has all the qualities that allowed to lead Copernicus investigations of the inequality of the motion of the Earth.
